How to request time off, the pre/post-Christmas restricted periods, and holiday entitlements for employees and contractors.

Out of office & time off

Public holidays are recognized based on the country you're registered in. Speak to your manager if you'd like to change which country's schedule you follow.

When taking time off or on holidays:

  • Post in #ooo on Slack.
  • Block off your calendar.
  • Decline team meetings.
  • Set an OOO auto-reply if you're client-facing.

Restricted periods

Pre-Christmas freeze. For the last three weeks before Christmas, no holiday time may be taken by any employee or contractor due to increased business demands. This period is critical for gifting-platform operations.

Post-Christmas: immediately after Christmas, operations and support teams are crucial for ensuring orders are fulfilled and customer inquiries answered. Those teams are expected to be available to handle the increased workload.

Vacation evaluation: time off during these peak periods (pre- and post-Christmas) is closely evaluated and subject to strict approval based on operational needs.

Global Holiday Policy

This policy establishes guidelines for recognizing and granting holiday leave for employees and contractors of PerkUp, Inc., ensuring fair and consistent practices across our global operations. It applies to all employees and contractors globally.

Employees in Canada

Observe the standard public holidays recognized and published by the Government of Canada.

International contractors

  • Fixed entitlement: contractors residing outside Canada are entitled to 10 holidays per calendar year, aligned to public holidays in their country of residence.
  • Proration: holidays for new contractors or those ending partway through the year are prorated monthly (e.g. a March start is eligible for ~9 holidays that year).
  • Scheduling: holidays must coincide with official public holidays in the contractor's country of residence.
  • Submission: requests go through the Holiday Request Form, completed in full with date(s) and nature of the holiday.
  • Approval: requests are subject to operational and staffing needs; notification of approval or adjustment comes within five business days.

Compliance & amendments

Adherence is part of the terms of employment or contract; non-compliance may result in disciplinary action. Supervisors and HR maintain accurate holiday records. PerkUp may amend this policy at any time, subject to local laws or operational requirements, with notice to employees and contractors.
